The context

A school built to international standards.

The International School of Music and Dance (EIMD) has trained talent in music, dance and theatre for more than seventeen years, in Casablanca and Rabat. For its new Rabat premises, the Fondation Tenor pour la culture wanted a school built to international standards.

We designed and delivered it in partnership with Atelier Mawlawi.

The design response

Four buildings, one floating footbridge.

Rather than a single block, the 1,200 m² programme is split into four independent buildings: an administration building with the dance studio in the basement, and three classroom buildings.

A floating footbridge links them at upper level, above patios planted with palms. The language is minimalist: white volumes, black railings, light from above. Acoustics remain the priority, the first requirement of any music school.

Places to learn

Spaces designed for sound.

Classrooms lined with timber panels, a generously glazed hall whose timber wall displays instruments, a curved terrace open to the sky: every space supports artistic practice.

The open-air theatre

A stage for the school and the city.

As an extension of the school, an open-air theatre gives students a real stage. Grassed tiers rise in an arc facing an acoustic shell sheltered beneath a steel structure.

From the school's footbridge, the view drops straight onto the stage: theatre and school form a single place. It was inaugurated with a concert at nightfall.

What this project proves

Building for culture, from school to stage.

A school built to international standards, then an open-air theatre: we support foundations and institutions over time, putting architecture at the service of sound, light and audiences.
